EXPRESS FIGHT OFF A CASE OF THE BLUES

Adam Beyer had four hits and Brooks Marquardt picks up the win pitching one inning in relief as the Express come from behind in the bottom of the ninth to win the home opener this past Saturday 11-10 over the Litchfield Blues at Veterans Memorial Field in Kimball.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth rookie Jason Tenney was hit by a pitch to drive in the winning run as the Express capped off a three run inning to come back and take the season opener.

Litchfield jumped out to a three run lead in the first inning on a three run blast by first baseman John Huff off Express starter Pat Arnold. The Express tied it back up in the third inning as they scored three runs on a sac fly by Beyer a double by Brian Marquardt and a single off the bat of Pat Arnold.

Kimball took the lead in the fourth inning scoring four more runs with the big hit coming off the bat of Beyer as he doubled over the leftfielders head scoring two.  The Express added one more run in the eighth.

Litchfield tied the game up in the eighth inning making the score 8-8. Litchfield rallied for two in the top of the ninth before the Express tallied three in the ninth to win the game.

Pat Arnold started and went three innings for the Express. He was relieved by Joe Krippner. Krippner went three innings in relief before Paul Hughes came on to work the next two innings. Brooks Marquardt pitched the ninth and picks up the win.

Adam Beyer was 4-4 with a double and 5 rbi in his debut with the Express. Brian Marquardt also had a good day at the plate going 2-4 with a double and drove in a pair.

Rail Report

The Express are next in action this coming Sunday April 23, 2:00 in Marty as they open the Central Valley League schedule against the Pearl Lake Lakers. The Express split the season series with the Lakers last season.

Saturday the Express were without two starters, Scott Marquardt and Jim Brubaker as they were traveling for the Easter weekend. Look for the full squad to be in tact for the Express on Sunday.
