EXPRESS LOSE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 9TH IN SLUGGISH OPENER

May 1, 2007

The Express lost the Central Valley League opener this past Sunday as they fell to the Watkins Clippers 5-4 on a Pat Geslinger single that scored Bruce Geislinger giving the Clippers an undefeated start to the CVL season.

In the opening weekend of Central Valley League play the game between the Express and the Clippers looked like the first game of the season as both teams combined for eight errors in a very sluggish contest. The only big highlight of the day was a fifth inning homerun off the bat of Brian Marquardt to give the Express a 4-2 lead.

That lead stood until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Clippers mounted a rally off reliever Brooks Marquardt scoring two runs to tie the game at 4-4. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth inning where the Clippers scored the winning run.

Pat Arnold started on the mound for the Express and went five innings before giving way to Marquardt. Arnold walked four, struck out two while allowing four hits. Marquardt takes the loss going four innings in relief walking five, striking out one and allowing one hit.

Offensively Adam Beyer went 3-4 on the day with three singles, Brian Marquardt went 1-4 and added a solo homerun. Brooks Marquardt was 1-5 with a double and an rbi.
