EXPRESS LEAVE SAINTS HANDS FOLDED May 15, 2006 Aaron Knaus drove in three runs and Brooks Marquardt added three hits as the Kimball Express left Dassel-Cokato praying for a comeback win as they defeated the Saints in Dassel 10-7 last Wednesday evening in non-league action. The Express jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning with Jason Tenney getting a big hit driving in a pair on a two out single. Kimball tacked on another run in the second inning on an rbi double off the bat of Adam Beyer. In the third inning the Saints tied it up at 6-6 when Express starting pitcher Joe Krippner lost his control. Scott Marquardt came on in the fourth inning in relief of Krippner and picks up his first win of the season as Scott pitched five inning of relief before giving way to Adam Beyer in the ninth as Beyer closed the door on any comeback hopes by the Saints. The Express scored a pair of runs in the seventh as Knaus knocked in two with a single. Knaus finished the night 3-3 with three rbi’s to lead the Kimball offense. Knaus’ hti was the game winner. Kimball added two more in the eighth inning to make it 10-6 with DC scoring a lone run in the eighth to make it a final at 10-7. The win gives the Express a 4-1 record overall. Rail Report Rain, rain and more rain has contributed to two cancellations this past week for the Express. Friday night the Express were to be in Cold Spring to battle the Springers and Saturday’s CVL bout with the St. Nicholas Nicks was cancelled due to the rain. The St. Nicholas game is the only game that will be rescheduled as that is a league game and needs to be made up. It looks like the makeup game will be June 21 at 7:30 in Watkins. The Express are in action this Saturday at home against the defending Class C state champion Holdingford Express at 2:00. Sunday they travel to Watkins to take on the CVL power and 2005 class C state tourney entrant Watkins Clippers. Last year the Express swept the season series with the Clippers. It’s always a good game when these two teams meet. The first pitch is slated for 2:00. Mother’s Day
Dinner The Kimball Express and the Playland Ballroom would like to thank everyone that came out for our 20th annual Mother’s Day dinner as you all made it another successful event. A very big thank you goes out to the Playland Ballroom staff for putting everything together. It takes a big effort from everyone to serve over 500 people in two hours. The money raised from the dinner goes to improvements to Kimball Veterans Memorial Field. As mentioned in last week’s paper, look for new dugouts this fall and new fencing behind home plate and down the first and third base foul lines. Thanks again.
