WIN IMPROVES EXPRESS RECORD TO 4-2 May 17, 2004 With the wind blowing in from left field on an overcast afternoon at Luxemburg’s ballpark the Kimball Express downed the Luxemburg Brewers 3-2, beating them for the second time in just over a week. A bases clearing two run double by Jeremy Kuechle and a sac fly by Scott Marquardt scoring Kuechle from third gave the Express their third win in a row and second win over Luxemburg this year taking the season series. Both teams combined for seven hits on the day. It was a pitchers duel as Pat Arnold got the nod for the Express and Adam Holzheimer toed the rubber for the Brewers. For six innings Sunday there wasn’t much offense at all. Arnold kept the Brew Crew in check as he only allowed a single hit threw six. Holzheimer, only three hits through six. In the bottom of the seventh inning the Brewers got to Arnold as they took advantage of two walks and two hits. Arnold left the game after 6 2/3 innings allowing only three hits. He did give up two earned runs as the Brewers took the lead 2-0. In the top of the eighth inning Brian Marquardt singled and Nate Turck walked to set the stage for Kuechle’s line drive double down the right field line plating two. Kuechle advanced to third as the Brewers tried to get Turck out at home. Scott Marquardt then hit a high sac fly down the right field line scoring Kuechle as he tagged from third. Brooks Marquardt relieved Arnold in the seventh inning and pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to pick up the win. This was Brooks’ first action on the mound for the Express this season as he, brother Brian and Turck are all back from their respective college teams. Kuechle lead the Express offensively as he went 1-4 with a double and two rbi. Arnold (1-1) making his second start and his fourth appearance of the year gets the no decision. Arnold’s only win came in a relief appearance against the Eden Valley Hawks in the season’s first game of the year.
