WISHY WASHY WEDNESDAY

May 18, 2005

The Express and DC Saints were washed out Wednesday evening due to heavy rains throughout the state. There will be no make up game scheduled as this was an non-league contest.

Friday night the Express head west and spar with the Watkins Clippers in a game featuring two of the CVL’s top teams. In their first meeting of the season the Express held off a late surge by the Clippers to take round one of the two game season series.

Watkins jumped up early on Express starter Pat Arnold tallying five runs in the first two innings. Kimball answered with an eight run second inning to chase Clipper starter Bruce Geislinger, making the score 8-5.

The Express added one in the fourth and four more in the fifth making it 13-5. In the seventh inning the Express answered a five run Clippers rally scoring one run to make the final 14-10.

Probable starting pitchers for Friday nights contest are Pat Arnold for Kimball and Bruce Geislinger for the Clippers.

In 2003 the Express and Clippers were the Region 10C representatives in the Minnesota Class C State Tournament. Both were eliminated in region play a year ago and are hungry to get back to the tournament this year.

Since the loss to the Express earlier this year the Clippers have not lost and are looking to avenge.

Come on out to the park in Watkins for what should be a beautiful night and a great baseball atmosphere. The first pitch is slated for 7:30!

Sunday afternoon the Express will be back home in the friendly confines of Veterans Memorial Field. They will host the Pearl Lake Lakers of Marty with a 2:00 first pitch.

Last season the Express and Lakers split the season series with both teams winning at home. If history repeats itself the Express have a good shot at taking round one against the Lakers this Sunday.

So far this season the Lakers are off to a slow start. That doesn’t matter in this match up as the last few years the same scenario has played out with the Lakers upsetting Kimball early in the season. Pearl Lake should now have all of their college kids back and that will help them tremendously throughout the rest of CVL play.

Last week in the loss to the Nicks the Lakers were without ace Dale Kraemer who thought fishing was more important than a Sunday afternoon baseball game. Look for another great game between the two teams this Sunday!
