FROEHLING THROWS OUT FIRST PITCH

May 29, 2006

Amber Froehling was honored this past Saturday at the Kimball Express home game against the Pearl Lake Lakers of Marty. The high school junior threw out the first pitch as she was instrumental in getting Veterans Memorial Field a $5,000 grant from the Minnesota Twins Community Fund and their 2006 Fields for Kids campaign.

Amber submitted a letter on behalf of the Kimball Express Baseball Association without anyone knowing that she did so. Amber is a very devoted Kimball Express fan and she knows how much hard work and time, members of the Express have donated in making improvements to Veterans Memorial Field. She wanted to help out in any way possible, so she sent in a letter explaining her position and what the field was all used for and why the money was needed. She was hoping to get the money and surprise everyone.

She got it and saying she surprised everyone is an understatement. As everyone in the community knows there’s been many improvements to the local ball diamond over the past three years. Money has been very hard to come by and all the work has been donated by members of the Express team and other community members with help from many local businesses as well. Everyone was elated in hearing the news.

The field is used for high school baseball, Legion baseball, amateur baseball and the Kimball Days softball tournament. The money received from the Twins 2006 Field for Kids will go towards new dugouts.

This year’s projects were going to be put on hold until the news of the $5,000 grant. Amber made it happen. Everyone in town please thank Amber as her time and hard work in putting everything together to submit for the grant is very much appreciated.

This story is what community is all about. Everyone in Kimball should feel proud of their young people as they do make a difference. Nobody told Amber she had to do this. It’s something she thought was right and she wanted to make a something happen. The new dugouts will forever have her name go with them. What Amber did is what makes small towns like Kimball grow and puts them on the map.

Once again, thank you to Amber Froehling and please give Amber a high five and thank her for her efforts in getting Kimball some new dugouts.
