SOGGY WEEKEND TURNS INTO SOGGY RECORD

June 6, 2005

A miserable weekend again for anything didn’t help matters for the Express as they lost to the Litchfield Blues Friday night and play was suspended due to rain in the ninth inning Sunday in Kimball against the Cold Spring Rockies with the Express down 3-2.

Friday night the Express traveled to Litchfield taking on the Blues. It was Dairy Night at soggy Optimist Park sponsored by First District Association as the Blues handed the Express their first loss of the season 3-2.

The Blues rallied for three runs in the fifth inning scoring all three with two outs off Express starter Justin Hill (1-1). Kimball came back in the seventh inning closing the gap to 3-2 scoring two runs. It stayed that way until the ninth when Kimball got the tying run on second base with one out but could not get it across.

The only good thing to note from the game was the Express learned the top three dairy producing states in the U.S. are California, Wisconsin and New York. Also there are 473,000 dairy cows in the state of Minnesota.

Cold Spring

Sunday the Cold Spring Rockies came to town as the top two teams in the Central Valley League South duked it out. The game was suspended in the ninth inning due to rain with the Express trailing 3-2. The game will be continued in the next meeting between the two teams on June 28 in Cold Spring.

Cold Spring took the early lead with Kimball tying it up at 2-2 later in the game. In the top of the ninth, Rockies first baseman John Rossman belted a solo homerun to give the Rockies the advantage and that is where the game was halted.

Stay tuned; the game will resume with the Rockies at bat in the top of the ninth inning with no runners on base and two outs. The game will be completed before the regularly scheduled game on the 28th of June.

Rail Report

After the weekends festivities the Express overall record stands at 8-1. They are still officially undefeated in the league, but with the Rockies clinging to a one run lead in the ninth it doesn’t look good for the Express on that note.

Wednesday evening at 7:30, the Express travel to Cold Spring to take on the perennial Class B state power Cold Spring Springers. The Springers beat the Express last year 5-4 in a close game. Over the last two seasons the Express are 1-1 against the Springers.

Friday night Kimball travels to New Ulm to take on the Brewers. Last year the Express evened the overall record between the two teams at 1-1. A 7:30 first pitch is slated for this game.

Saturday the Express will be in Sleepy Eye taking on the Indians in a 7:30 matchup. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams. Sleepy Eye has a beautiful complex as they have hosted the state tournament on occasion and the Express are very excited to be playing the Indians. The Indians play in the Tomahawk League and area a class C team.

Sunday the Express will be home against the Eden Valley Hawks as they will resume CVL play. The Hawks are 3-2 in CVL action so far this season and will be tough as usual for the Express. A 2:00 start is slated for Sunday at Veterans Memorial Field in Kimball.
