EXPRESS STEAM ROLL LITCH

June 24, 2004

On a breezy cool evening at Optimist Park in Litchfield the Kimball Express unloaded an offensive barrage reminiscent of just over a week ago in the St. Cloud tournament as they scorched the Blues for 21 hits in a 14-2 route Wednesday night in Central Valley League action.

Starting pitcher Brooks Marquardt went seven innnings and struck out eight in picking up his third win of the season. Marquardt was also had three hits including a bases clearing triple and drove in four runs on the night. Joe Pennertz chipped in with three hits with a solo blast in the second inning that got the scoring going for the Express. Express shortstop Jeremy Kuechle belted out three hits as well including an rbi double in the fourth.

The Express scored two runs in three of the first four innings and added a five run sixth inning to really blow the game open. It was never close as the Blues added two runs in the fourth to make the score 6-2. Another highlight in the game was a Brian Marquardt rbi triple in the third inning.

Brooks Marquardt went seven six strong innings. He was relieved by Joe Krippner to start the seventh inning. Krippner pitch two scoreless innings before giving way to Jeremy Kuechle who threw a goose egg on the board in the ninth.
