EXPRESS QUALIFY FOR REGION 11C TOURNEY

On a warm breezy afternoon at the friendly confines of Veterans Memorial Field in Kimball the Kimball Express defeated the Cold Spring Rockies 6-3 qualifying them for Region 11C Tournament play.

Jim Brubaker threw a complete game striking out seven to pick up his seventh win of the season improving his record to 7-0 on the year and Adam Beyer went 2-3 hitting a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead the Express offense.

Kimball led the entire game jumping out to an early 1-0 lead on an Adam Beyer double which scored Aaron Knaus. The Express made it 3-0 in the fourth inning on the Beyer homerun and Jim Brubaker’s single The Rockies plated one in the top half of the fifth inning only to see the Express answer with one of their own in their half of the fifth as Joe Pennertz scored when Rockies pitcher Mike Heinen walked Jim Brubaker plating Pennertz.

The Express offense tallied single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to give them a 6-3 victory. Adam Beyer lead the Express at the plate going 2-3 with a double, a homerun and two rbi. Brubaker and Knaus aided in the effort both collecting two hits a piece and Brooks Marquardt was 3-5.

Rail Report

The overall record for Kimball sits at 20-7. The win advances the Express into Region 11C play which starts Friday Aug 3 and will run two weekends. Before region action kicks off the Express will play the Luxemburg Brewers for seeding purposes. The Brewers defeated the Pearl Lake Lakers and Cold Spring Rockies this past weekend to qualify for Region play. The Brewers and Express play Sunday at 1:00 in Kimball . The Brewers need to beat the Express twice to claim the number one seed out of the Central Valley North division.
