EXPRESS BACK TO WINNING WAYS

July 8, 2005

The Express are winners in three of their last four games after losing six of seven. Kimball came back from a 3-2 ninth inning deficit to steal one from the Cold Spring Rockies in a continuation game from earlier this year. They also avenged an earlier season loss by the Eden Valley Hawks as they beat the green machine in extra innings 3-2 and they trampled the lowly Nicks of St. Nicholas 7-0 as Kris Hagen and Joe Krippner combined on a two hit shut out. The only loss was at the hands of the Rockies on the back end of the continuation game as the Rockies took it to the Express beating them up 9-0.

Things are shaping up in the CVL playoff picture after this past weekend of play. Kimball is once again in sole possesion of first place in the CVL South after the Cold Spring Rockies dropped a pair of games as they lost to Luxemburg and the Eden Valley Hawks. The Express have the CVL South's number one seed locked up and will be facing the Pearl Lake Lakers of Marty in round one of the CVL South playoffs at Kimball. Even if the Lakers win out this weekend and are tied with the Luxemburg Brewers at 7-7, they will bow to the Brew Crew due to the tie breaker as Luxemburg has beaten the Lakers twice this year in head to head competition. So that leaves the Brewers and Rockies facing off for round one in Cold Spring.

Watkins has run away with the CVL North title and will be facing the last place Nicks of St. Nicholas in round one of the CVL playoffs. St. Augusta and Eden Valley will be squaring off in round one with no site yet detemined as this weekend of play could change the outcome of the second place battle. Eden Valley would have to lose twice and St. Augusta would have to beat Kimball just in order for the Gussies to have a chance at second place. It is not known at the time of this writing who holds the tie breaker in the instance this happens.

The CVL South is anybody's to take as you can tell by the records. Pearl Lake has beaten the top seeded Express and Lux has beaten the second place Cold Spring Rockies. It should be interesting as everything unfolds.

Sounds like the Region 11C tournament will be played in Cold Spring this year as the Rockies have worked out a schedule with the other Cold Spring team, the Springers. This year the CVL teams up with the Northstar League to form Region 11C.

Good luck to all CVL teams after this weekend as Region 11C berths are on the minds of all who enter CVL playoff action.
