VETERANS MEMORIAL FIELD GETS GROOMING

October 5, 2005

Kimball Veterans Memorial Field has gotten another face lift this fall as members of the Kimball Express baseball team ripped up the existing infield and brought in some fill to level off the playing surface and also got the mound and home plate area rebuilt with special material that will hold up over the long haul of a high school, legion and amateur baseball season.

The project is just another piece of the puzzle that the Express team has completed in their quest to give the town a beautiful baseball park for everyone to enjoy. With the latest project being completed the list of renovations is getting smaller. Slated for the next few years for the park is a new backstop, new dugouts, new fence down the foul lines, concession stand and bathrooms along with a grandstand and press box, lights and landscaping around the ballpark to finish it off. In all the donations the team has made to the City of Kimball for renovations on the field is close to $36,000.00.

To do the mound and home plate areas, Pete Schleper of Avon , MN and a member of the Avon Lakers amateur baseball team, was hired to come in and give those areas a professional look. He doesn’t give his secret away as he was asked where he gets his material and what it is. Whatever it is, it is a definite improvement over the material that was there before. Also thanks to Hilsgen Bobcat Service and Arnold’s of Kimball for their donations and contributions to the project.
